Azalea Orthopedics All-Star 09’ Tournament Date Set

The Azalea Orthopedics All-Star high school basketball games have been set for April 18, 2009 at the UT Tyler Patriot Center on the UT Tyler campus. The game, which is in its sixth year, is sponsored by Azalea Orthopedics. The Tournament gives high school seniors in the East Texas area the opportunity to showcase their talent for colleges and hometown fans. “As we come into the sixth year of sponsoring the Azalea Orthopedics All-star Games the honor and privilege of working with the coaches and kids from around East Texas brings great joy to our family here at Azalea Orthopedics,” says Dan Fuller, Azalea head athletic trainer and coordinator of the annual event.

Seniors are nominated by their high school coaches and are selected by an All Star selection panel. “The number of kids being nominated each year continues to grow as the games become more a part of the East Texas sporting community. The talent base shows just how much the coaches and kids enjoy the fact that we have an All-star Game right here in our own back yard,” explains Fuller. He also added that areas of East and West divide teams geographically.
Coaches for this year’s All-Star game are Tim Davis, boys head coach of the Sabine Cardinals, and Greg Jenkins, boys head coach for the Cayuga Wildcats, Paul Bell, girls head coach Sabine Cardinals, and Denise Yankie, girls head coach Rains Wildcats.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m. April 18. The girl’s game time is slated for 6:00 p.m. with the boy’s game to follow at approximately 7:45 p.m. Ticket prices are $6.00 for adult and $3.00 for children under the age of 10.

All proceeds from the All-Star game are donated to the Bethesda Clinic.

Media Opportunity

Both the East and West squads will practice at the UT Tyler Patriot Center. The Girls West squad will practice from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and the Boys West will take the court from 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on April 14th. The Girls East squad will practice from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. with the Boys East team taking the court from 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on April 15th. The practice is open to the media.
