CBS 19, Azalea Orthopedics, and TSJH join
forces to provide
new state-of-the-art Doppler to East Texas
The local East Texas CBS affiliate, CBS 19 announced
today the purchase of the new DOPRAD Fury Doppler radar system,
the newest and most advanced radar system in the nation. Through
a long-term partnership with Azalea Orthopedics and Texas Spine & Joint
Hospital, CBS 19 will provide the region with the latest and
most accurate weather tracking system available.
Phil Hurley, president and general manager of
CBS 19 says the July 2006 installation, will be a milestone
for East Texas, “Texas is a major Mecca for severe weather.
With that in mind, we decided that this new technology would
give our viewers the most advanced warning for severe weather
throughout the East Texas Region.” Hurley says
the 3-D display; the photo realistic imagery; and the automatic
updating for storm tracking are what sets it apart from other
systems in the area.
Doc Deason, CBS 19 chief meteorologist says, “This
will be the most powerful live Doppler Radar between Dallas
and Shreveport. The DOPRAD Fury system can see some storms
up to 250 miles away from the radar site, providing more time
to warn our viewers of potential danger. Also through the use
of photo realistic imagery, our viewers will be able to see
actual city landmarks, like Tyler Pounds Field or Lake Lamond
in Longview. These landmarks are important in helping
viewers to easily identify where the storm is located and how
much time they have to seek safety,” explains Deason.
“Azalea Orthopedics and Texas Spine & Joint
Hospital are proud to be partnering with CBS 19. With so many
recent weather disasters, it is a constant reminder of how
damaging storms can be and why this type of advanced technology
is so vital to a community,” said Terry Pace, executive
director for Azalea Orthopedics.
The system also has a web component where viewers
can log on to CBS 19’s web site and track storms within
30 seconds time laps and see around the clock real-time weather
information. “The owners of CBS 19, Max Media wish to
express their gratitude to TSJH and Azalea for the new partnership.
If it were not for corporations like these and many others
who support CBS 19, this type of service would be difficult
to provide,” expressed Hurley.
“We applaud CBS 19 and Max Media for their
commitment and look forward to the benefits of the new Doppler
system,” said Tony Wahl, CEO of Texas Spine & Joint
Hospital.
