Traumatic Foot & Ankle

Injury Treatment

Our Foot and Ankle Specialists treat a wide range of problems, but perhaps the most common are traumatic injuries to the foot and ankle. These injuries usually take the form of sprains, strains, or fractures, and they are common in virtually every sport and everyday life. Whether you’re running in a football game or skating on an ice rink, your feet bear the brunt of your physical activity – and it’s easy for them to get injured under the stress they endure in such events. Some common injuries that athletes experience are:

  • Fractures
  • Sprains
  • Overuse Injuries
  • Dislocations
  • Diabetic Foot Care
  • Achilles and Other Tendon Injuries
  • Turf Toe Injuries
  • Ankle Replacement Surgery

Azalea Orthopedics is the leader in foot and ankle care in Tyler and throughout East Texas. We can help you identify the nature of your foot injury, perform any necessary treatment procedures, and create a plan to rejuvenate your foot and get you back to full function as soon as possible. We understand how frustrating it is to be off the field with an injury, so we strive to help our patients recover as quickly and as safely as possible.

Treatment for

Foot and Ankle Deformities

Foot and Ankle DeformitiesIn addition to traumatic injuries, we also treat mechanical deformities of the foot and ankle. These deformities may be hereditary or developmental; many of these deformities are a result of shoe wear. For example, high heel shoes cause the majority of foot deformities in women. A few of the most common deformities and conditions of the foot and ankle include:

  • Bunions
  • Toe deformities
  • Nerve entrapment (Neuroma)
  • Hammertoes
  • Arthritis

While we prioritize noninvasive treatments like shoe inserts or modifications and physical therapy, there are some cases where surgery may be required.

What Are The Differences Between

Podiatrist and Foot and Ankle Orthopedic Surgeons?

There are many Podiatrists in Tyler, Texas, but only a few specialty trained Foot and Ankle Orthopedic Surgeons. Azalea Orthopedics is proud to have two Foot and Ankle Specialists on our team- Dr. Beck & Dr. Priddy. The main difference between Podiatrists and Foot and Ankle Orthopedic Surgeons is the amount of education they endure. Typically, Podiatrists undergo about 8 years of formal training, while specialty trained Foot and Ankle Orthopedic Surgeons complete around 14 years of schooling including a year-long fellowship solely focused on their field of study. Therefore, after graduation, Foot and Ankle Orthopedic Surgeons are classified as Medical Doctors while Podiatrists are not.

In the state of Texas, Podiatrists are legally prohibited from treating anything above the foot, unlike a specialty trained Foot and Ankle Specialist. Often, Podiatrists see similar injuries as our Foot and Ankle Orthopedic Surgeons, such as Sprains, Bunions, Fractures, Hammertoes, and other Sports-related Injuries, but the list of their treatment options are much smaller. Our Specialists are more equipped to handle complex Sports-Injuries, Fractures, and Ankle Sprains. In many cases, conservative treatment is the best approach for correcting these problems. In many instances, Podiatrists lack the skills necessary to repair advanced foot and ankle issues. Our Foot and Ankle Specialists rely on medicine’s most technologically sound treatment options including Total Ankle Replacements, Robotic Assisted Surgery, and Complex Fusion Procedures. As with any of Azalea’s Medical professionals, our practice is built around producing unparalleled patient experiences and remarkable recoveries!

For complex ankle injuries and degenerative ankle issues, our specialists are the only surgeons in Tyler who offer Total Ankle Replacements. Other Orthopedic Surgeons in town might offer fusion surgery to correct these severe problems; our surgeons can provide options for our patients, which might include a fusion or an Ankle Replacement. Ultimately, a fusion will limit the amount of motion you will regain after surgery, while an Ankle Replacement will provide more movement following your procedure. Not all patients with such injuries are candidates for Ankle Replacement surgery; it’s important to discuss all of your options with your surgeon in order to customize a solution that allows for the best possible outcome for you.
