The Azalea Orthopedics All-Star high school basketball games have been set for April 13, 2013 at the Wagstaff Gymnasium on the Tyler Junior College campus. “The Wagstaff Gymnasium has been perfect for our games. The gymnasium has a great look and brings the fans a little closer to the action on the court,” says Dan Fuller, Head Athletic Trainer/Sports Medicine Coordinator for Azalea, who additionally coordinates the annual event. This is the 10th anniversary of the games sponsored by Azalea Orthopedics. The Classic gives high school seniors in the East Texas area the opportunity to showcase their talent for colleges and hometown fans.
“We are proud to announce this year’s coaches for the 2013 year Azalea All-Star games. The committee members believe these high caliber coaches will make for an exciting event,” continued Fuller.
Girls
East- Chris Lewis Winnsboro High School
West- Doug Barncastle Martins Mill High School
Boys
East- Alan Johnston Robert E Lee High School
West- Robert Loper Frankston High School
The two boys’ coaches are the original coaches from the very first Azalea All-Star game held in 2004. We have asked them back to celebrate our 10th Anniversary of the All-Star game.
“This event has become more than just good fun and friendship; it has grown into an event that attracts college coaches and recruiters. For that reason it has become something more for these kids than one last game, it has become a chance for dreams to continue,” explains Fuller.
Doors open at 5:00 p.m. on April 13. The girls’ game time is slated for 5:30 p.m. with the boy’s game to follow at approximately 6:45 p.m. Ticket prices are $6.00 for adult and $3.00 for children under the age of 10.
All proceeds from the All-Star game are donated to the Bethesda Clinic.
