Notice Regarding Prescription Pain Medicine

Addiction to prescription medication has become a major health problem in this country. The State of Texas through the Texas Medical Board has developed rules to help address this problem. See TMB Rule 170 for more details. As recommended by the Texas Medical Board your physician may require a urine drug screening test be performed prior to prescribing pain medication. This is a safe and simple test that allows your physician to be sure there are no medications in your system that could adversely react with the pain medication you are taking. Your physician may also require this test before refilling a prescription to ensure your medications are being taken appropriately. You have the right to refuse this test. If you do so the physician may not be able to prescribe the pain medication.
